We don’t know if you’ve heard about it but there is a new weight loss craze hitting the coffee industry named Bulletproof coffee.

If you don’t know what Bulletproof coffee is, it is a new concept which is being used to replace breakfast. The drink normally consists of:
• 2 cups of coffee
• 2 tablespoons of grass-fed, unsalted butter
• 1-2 tablespoons of MCT oil
• Mixed in a blender

Now we know what you’re thinking, why replace what has been argued as the most important meal of the day, due to the nutritional values that come with it, with something that is extremely un-nutritious? Well let us give you a bit more information on this concept.

The science behind it suggests that because the drink is quite high in fat it will in fact kill your appetite and provide you with enough energy to stop you from picking at other snacks until Lunch. Another benefit of the huge amount of energy is that it should increase the levels of Ketone in your blood which is used for fuel to create more brainpower.

But obviously it does mean that you are missing out on a third of your normal daily nutrition which does make it quite an unhealthy option to breakfast.

There have also been some cases of dramatically high cholesterol levels due to Bulletproof coffee, which is obviously down to the huge amounts of fat.

The verdict is that it hasn’t been proven that Bulletproof coffee can actually help you lose weight but the science behind it suggest that it is possible. On the other hand the health risks far outweigh the benefits and we would recommend that you should not start drinking Bulletproof coffee.
